What are the characteristics and uses of random polypropylene?

Random polypropylene is a by-product of the production of isotactic polypropylene, which is obtained by separating from the product of isotactic polypropylene. Therefore, any plastic manufacturing company that can produce isotactic polypropylene can produce random polypropylene.



(1) Random polypropylene is an amorphous, microstrip viscous white wax at room temperature, with a relative density of 0.86, this amorphous viscous substance has no strength and is not suitable for plastic alone.

(2) The softening point is 90 ~ -150C, the embrittlement temperature is -15 ~ -6C, the flash point is 220 ~ 230C, and the degrading begins when heated to 200C, and the ignition point is 300 ~ 330%.

(3) Random polypropylene can be soluble in organic solvents such as alkanes, aromatics, high carbon alcohols and esters, but insoluble in water and low relative molecular weight alcohols and ketones.

(4) Random polypropylene has poor mechanical and thermal properties and tensile strength of less than 0.8MPa due to its small relative molecular weight, irregular structure and lack of cohesion.


(5) Good adhesion. Excellent hydrophobicity, chemical resistance, good adhesion, and good compatibility with plastic rubber and inorganic fillers, so plastic suppliers can be modified with modifiers.



Although the structure of random polypropylene is irregular, lacks of cohesion, thermal properties, and poor mechanical properties, it has excellent adhesion, chemical resistance, electrical insulation, and compatibility with other plastics or inorganic fillers, making it in chemical, light industry, medicine, plastic agriculture

It has been widely used in the fields of construction and electronics. The specific application is as follows.


(1) Make hot melt adhesive. Random polypropylene and a variety of resins (polypropylene polyethylene and ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, etc.) are combined to make adhesives with a variety of different properties or pressure-sensitive adhesives for flocking and bonding substrates, etc., and polymer hydrocarbons can be formulated with adhesives with good water resistance. It can be formulated with high-density polyethylene to form a self-adhesive film.

(2) Sealing materials. Random polypropylene has a good affinity for fillers, and the plugging agent formulated has good viscosity, and can be used as a gap-plugging material for floor joints or cold rooms.

(3) Make thickener or additive. Random polypropylene and mineral oil have good miscibility, and ink mixing can improve ink viscosity, static storage will not solidify into freezing, so random polypropylene can be used as an ink thickener and lubricating oil additive.

(4) Making paint. Random polypropylene can be boiled with bitumen and fillers to make water-resistant coatings used to protect anchors and underground pipes.


(5) Make emulsifier. The emulsifier is made of low relative molecular weight (6000~9000) random polypropylene and liquid paraffin phosphate surfactant, which is used as an emulsifier for paper gluing and pesticides.

(6) Make composite adhesives with different characteristics. It is used for paper-to-paper, plastic film, and plastic-to-metal bonding.

(7) With an adhesive composed of random polypropylene, resin mineral oil, and plasticizer, materials such as sand-asbestos and cork are added to lay the sports field runway, which has very good performance.

(8) After the asphalt is mixed with random polypropylene, it can improve the cold resistance, heat resistance, and impact resistance of asphalt, and improve the performance of asphalt.

(9) Other uses of random polypropylene, such as fillers can be used for cables. Dispersants of pigments, with peppermint oil or camphor can be formulated into medicinal ointments.
